Library County Listings for England, Scotland and Wales

Our library holdings for each county are now available to view by clicking on the relevant county link below. Each link will take you to a list of which records we currently hold for each county, although remember to also check our latest acquisitions section on the library home page

Each county catalogue is divided into sections for parish registers, trade directories and then any other documents that we hold.  There is a basic search facility that can be used to search the catalogues (instructions are on each county page) or you can scroll down the listings in a traditional manner! Please bear in mind that the listings were originally intended for IHGS staff and hence are not totally uniform in presentation. We believe the information is up to date and accurate, but it is always advisable to double check with the librarian that a book is still available before visiting to view it.

The listings only represent sources for a specific county and are only a small part of our collection. A full catalogue of all the library holdings can be viewed in the library.

If you find a record that is of interest to you and you wish to visit the library, our library opening hours are Monday – Friday 10am-4.30pm. You will need to telephone us to book a place in advance. There is a small fee for members of the Institute to use the library (£2 per session or £3 per day) whilst non-members pay a higher rate (full day £12.50: half day: £8.75).

If you wish to become a member of the IHGS the yearly rate is currently £ 22.50. (See the Membership page).
