We are delighted to announce that the Trustees of the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies have awarded the Julian Bickersteth Memorial Medal for 2018 to the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives. It is wonderful to make the award in the year in which AGRA celebrates its half-century as the professional body for genealogy.
Julian Bickersteth (1885-1962) was an Archdeacon at Canterbury, and inspired Cecil Humphery-Smith to establish the School of Family History (which grew into the Institute) in 1957. The prestigious Medal established in Julian Bickersteth's memory is awarded annually to an individual or body whose contributions to family historical studies have been notable and exemplary.
