The Institute publishes three maps showing the registration districts which existed in England and Wales for the periods (i)1837-1851, (ii)1852- 1946 and (iii) 1946-1965. The maps are approximately A2 size.
These districts were based upon the poor law unions created in 1834 and from the basic administrative units for the civil registration of births, marriages and deaths from 1837 and for the decennial censuses from 1841. Each district is shown along with its allocated reference number used in the indexes to civil registration, making the maps and indispensible aid when undertaking general registration searching.
