How to Draw a Pedigree Tree Using Your Computer

The course will demonstrate how traditional pedigrees can be created using Microsoft PowerPoint and will be particularly attractive to those wishing to undertake commissioned work, students on the Correspondence Course in Genealogy and for those who want to correctly display their ancestral lines. The course will be led by Les Mitchinson, IHGS Director of Education and AGRA Vice Chair, who has been running the pedigree module for a number of years. To gain the maximum benefit from the module you should have a working knowledge of computers and have the use of a personal laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint installed. [For those without a laptop please contact IHGS as there are computers available on the day, however numbers are limited and pre booking is required]

Tea breaks will be included.

In the morning session you will be shown how to construct a drop-line pedigree and how to correctly display your information.  You will then be shown the basic principles of pedigree design on a computer using the software Microsoft PowerPoint 2010.  You will also be given an example of a pedigree  and asked to copy it to your computer.

In the afternoon session you will be shown how to accommodate multiple marriages and how to extend your pedigree.  Then, using the pedigree you have already produced, you will be given further information and asked to make adjustments to it.  You will also be shown how to change the size, colour and design of the lines, how to import pictures and finally how to print your finished pedigree.
