A week left to enter our essay competition, in celebration of our Diamond Jubilee. 

The competition will close Thursday July 1st. 

Adult Entrants:

A Story Worth Telling: the biography of a family group you would like to immortalise. This might be spread over two or three generations. Base your research on primary genealogical and historical sources, including any appropriate specialist records, together with family memorabilia. You might consider war-time experiences, emigration and family occupations: a shop, factory or farm. It should include a pedigree. (3,000 Words) 
Prize: £100 donation to a charity of your choice and £100 IHGS Voucher

Sixth Form Students: 

Open to any students in years 12 and 13 studying in the UK

We are delighted to welcome esteemed historian Dr Nick Barratt as our judge:

Dr Nick Barratt is an author, broadcaster and historian best known for his work on BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are. He is an honorary associate professor of public history at the University of Nottingham, the Director of Learner and Discovery Services at the Open University, a teaching fellow at the University of Dundee and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. His latest publication, The Restless Kings, explores the reigns of Henry II, Richard I and John. He is currently the President of the Family History Federation, sits on the Executive Committee of the Community Archives and Heritage Group and is part of the Midlands 4 Cities Doctoral Training Partnership Advisory Group.

The winners will be invited to our Diamond Jubilee celebration 31st July 2021 in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral.

The winning and running up essays will be published in our journal Family History.
