The conference will take place from 8–10 September 2028 at Eastwood Hall, a 4-star hotel, on Mansfield Road, Eastwood, Nottingham NG16 3SS.
This three-day residential conference will bring together family historians, genealogists, historians and researchers from around the world for a weekend of inspiring lectures, lively discussion and shared discoveries. Set in comfortable surroundings with excellent food and hospitality, the conference offers the perfect opportunity to learn from leading experts, exchange ideas with fellow researchers and enjoy the company of others who share a passion for family history.
Call for Speakers
The Halsted Trust will issue its official Call for Papers in January 2027, inviting speakers to submit proposals exploring the conference theme of Fact or Fiction: Unravelling Family Myths.
We are seeking engaging presentations that investigate the stories families tell about themselves - and the evidence that confirms, challenges or completely overturns them. Topics might include family legends, hidden identities, illegitimacy, crime, migration, military service, forgotten fortunes, religious nonconformity, changing surnames, unexpected DNA discoveries and other genealogical mysteries.
We are particularly interested in innovative research methods and newly available sources that help uncover the truth behind long-held assumptions. How can traditional records, archaeology, DNA analysis, local history and emerging technologies shed new light on our ancestors' lives? What can family historians learn when the evidence contradicts the family story?
Our audience consists of enthusiastic lifelong learners who enjoy discovering new sources, developing their research skills and hearing fascinating case studies from experienced speakers.
