The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies has now passed our sixtieth anniversary of foundation, but its objectives still remain unchanged: to strive for higher standards in genealogical and heraldic research by way of education, and to maintain its extensive library on both subjects for all interested researchers. The Institute has not only many basic reference works in both disciplines but also manuscript and printed family histories, transcripts of genealogical and local history source materials, and scholarly periodicals and journals.
We are a registered charity and have no government funding. All profits are ploughed back for the furtherance of our educational aims and the maintenance of our venerable mediaeval building and its library here in the heart of Canterbury. We therefore rely on donations, grants and legacies to survive and ensure that our priceless collections remain available for future generations of scholars.
