As a student or professional genealogist it is important to use referencing in your writing.
Why Reference?
Referencing is the acknowledgement of the sources that you use in your work. They enable the reader to locate the sources referred to and support and strengthens your argument. A fully sourced genealogical report gives your research credibility.
IHGS has produced guidelines to suggested formats for referencing genealogical sources. These are guidelines only as there is no 'right way' to reference sources. However it is important that they include all the necessary information and are standardised throughout the work.
