If you are going to advertise yourself as a professional researcher then your presentation to the client is the ‘window display’ of your business; a reflection on you. If you are seeking to gain membership of AGRA then you will need to submit a client report to be assessed by the AGRA Board of Assessors. Similarly, one of the Diploma in Genealogy tasks is to conduct research on behalf of an imaginary client and to produce a client report describing the results of your research. A report poorly structured and lacking key information will not help your cause.
The module will cover the key components that comprise a client report and offer tips on how to manage a research task. Subjects covered include:
The format of a report
The key components
Sourcing the work
Use of illustrations/enclosures/transcripts
Production of a pedigree tree
Recommendations for further research
Client relationship
Accurately documenting a research task
Sticking to the client’s wishes – knowing when to stop
