The Meaning of Terms in Documents - Pightle
A pightle, also known as pyghtle, referred to a small encloser of land. Variants like pightel and pighel were found in documents from around 1200 - later evolving into words like piddle, which became an expression meaning very little. This term, once common for land measurement, has now become obscure, though remnants can be found in old wills, such as in that of George Wernham from Chiveley in Berkshire in 1738:
