Education Records

The talk will examine the value of a variety of education records for family history research and will demonstrate how information can be found which may not be available elsewhere. It will look at the history of education and the development of the education system, explain the different types of schools (for example the various charity schools, industrial schools, voluntary schools and grammar schools) and university education. Looking at examples of the different records that are available for the different education establishments, it will highlight what information they contain and where these records can be found. The talk will show that education did not begin with the 1870 Elementary Education Act, and there is so much more to examining education records.

In order to be able to join the tutorial you will need access to ZOOM. On the day of the Tutorial you will be sent a unique ID and password.

Please allow for two hours for the session, including joining and discussions. The talk will last approximately an hour.
