Tutorial - The Mists of Time: Sources for Medieval and Early Modern Genealogy with Nick Barratt

In this talk, Nick explores the wide range of sources that are available to help you trace your ancestors further back in time, focusing on the challenges posed by the material and how to overcome them and an understanding of how society was structured. This will enable you to look for clues in records such as manorial court rolls, official documents from the Crown to the shires, and legal material.

Nick is an author, broadcaster and historian best known for his work on BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are. He is an honorary associate professor of public history at the University of Nottingham, the Director of Learner and Discovery Services at the Open University, a teaching fellow at the University of Dundee and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. His publication, The Restless Kings, explores the reigns of Henry II, Richard I and John.

Our online tutorials provide guidance on a broad range of topics. They are open to everyone.

In order to be able to join the tutorial you will need access to ZOOM. On the day of the Tutorial you will be sent a unique ID and password.

Please allow for two hours for the session, including joining and discussions. The talk will last approximately an hour.
