The Institute greatly regrets to announce the death of Duncan Harrington, FSA, FSG, LHG, one of its former students and members of staff. After learning the basic elements of his trade in Northgate, Duncan went on to become one of the most respected of Kentish genealogists and antiquaries, his palaeographical skills almost certainly being second to none. His research projects and many publications over several decades bore eloquent testimony to his wide-ranging interests and skills in diverse fields. For many years he was attached to the The National Archives and was latterly President of the Kent Family History Society. He will be deeply missed by large numbers of friends and colleagues. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his widow Rhona and to his children James and Rachel.
