Funny place names in genealogy

Tuesday 15th September 2015

Inevitably, whilst completing genealogical research unusual words and names will crop up.  It could be a road, village, township or hamlet which could be bizarrely named, and it all adds to the fun of completing historical research!

Take the small hamlet of Seldom Seen, and its neighbour Never Seen, in Newfield, County Durham.  Or how about the unlikely Rampant Horse Street in Norwich.  And the "Bottoms" near Abbots Langley in Hertfordshire, including Boggy Bottom and Hogspit Bottom.

Who knows what odd names will crop up in your family history?
