Errors will always occur within transcribed historical records, but when a name is slightly unusual, then it is more likely to have been mis-interpreted.
Take the unusually named Milson Probert. The surname Probert derives from the Welsh "ap Robert", or son of Robert, whilst Milson is more usually found as a surname. Clearly transcribers of various census records had trouble with this name, and his name is consistently transcribed as Wilson Robert, instead of Milson Probert.
Thus it is worth delving a little deeper into genealogical sources online, or in any published format, to check that a name has not been transcribed in an odd way!
