Volunteer Opportunity: Social Media Support at The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS)

Are you passionate about family history, heraldry, and sharing fascinating stories from the past?

The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies – the UK's premier School of Family History, founded in 1961 in Canterbury – is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help manage and grow our social media presence!

Role: Social Media Volunteer As a small educational charity, we're seeking someone with skills in social media to:

Create engaging posts about genealogy tips, heraldic facts, course highlights, and historical insights

Schedule content across social media platforms

Help increase our online community and reach more family history enthusiasts worldwide

Monitor engagement and suggest ideas to showcase our unique library, courses, and events

This is a flexible, remote-friendly role (with occasional in-person opportunities in Canterbury if local). Ideal for someone with experience in social media management, a love for history/genealogy, and creative flair. No prior professional qualification needed – just enthusiasm and reliability!

Why volunteer with us?

Contribute to preserving and promoting family history education

Gain experience with a respected charitable institution

Network with experts in heraldry and genealogy

Flexible commitment to fit your schedule

If you're interested, please email us at jane@ihgs.ac.uk with a brief note about yourself and why you'd like to help.
