Another missing burial record.....

Wednesday 13th March 2019

A death or burial can be one of the most difficult things to find as our blog last July revealed.

Whilst researching a Dover, family we spotted another intriguing example.

"30th June 1715 buried unknown stranger found almost dead under Castle Cliff. He was carried to the Almshouse adn died within four days, was not in a condition to give an account of himself nor was there anything of writ found about him that could gave any discovery what he was. He seemed to be a gentleman for he had a laced shirt short jacket and breeches, his stockings were on his legs, his shoes on his feet but were without buccles, there was nothing of silver about him nor was his hat found".

The entry asks all sorts of questions about how a man of some means ended up being buried as unkown in Dover. Quarter Session records would be worth examining to see if anything came of the missing silver.
