IHGS is recruiting general manager to oversee the daily running of the business and maintenance of its building.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Management -you will acquire an in-depth understanding of the incomings and outgoings of the Institute, with overarching responsibility for budgeting and invoicing. You will work alongside the bookkeeper in the production of the quarterly and annual accounts.

Clerk to the Trustees - you will be the company secretary responsible for communication with Companies House, the Charities Commission, and other official bodies. In the absence of a CEO you will also be the acting senior officer. You will organise and attend the quarterly meetings of the Trustees and be responsible for taking the minutes.

Property maintenance - you will be responsible for the maintenance of the fabric of the building, and supervise the maintenance of the gardens.

Human Resources - you will maintain a register of holidays and of sickness absence and ensure that necessary information for pensions, payroll and PAYE are supplied, distributing the payslips when they arrive. You will ensure that all employees have up to date job plans and contracts.

Health and Safety- you will ensure that all statutory requirements are met, especially Health and Safety and Fire Safety. You will also be responsible for ensuring all relevant insurance requirements are up to date.

Events - you will coordinate any special events that are requested by the Trustees, including the annual awards ceremony in July.

Contracts - you will oversee all necessary utilities and maintenance contracts.

Marketing and advertising - you will assist the educational manager and the director of Achievements in appropriate marketing and the placement of advertisements.

Record keeping -you will ensure that all key administrative records are scanned and stored electronically and backed up remotely and securely.

This role is part time 1-2 days a week between Monday to Thursday.

Person specification

Experience of management in a relevant sphere.

Strong computer skills and prior experience of accounting software.

Financial acumen, including the ability to analyse and interpret figures and financial information.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Problem solving capability.

Ability to work as a team player.

Desirable experience

Experience of working for a charity or in another regulated environment.

Interest in genealogy and/or heraldry.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: £16,000.00 per year depending on hours [£40,000 pro rata]

Expected hours: 7.5 – 15 per week

Ability to Commute: Canterbury (required)
