A Social History of England, c.1500-1700

England in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries feels both familiar and alien to us today. A world that was changing from the medieval to the modern. This talk explores society in this fascinating period, from popular culture to work, the household to riots. It will share some of the many sources that can be used to research this rich period in our family and local histories.

Joe is freelance historical researcher, an Associate of AGRA and a PhD student at the University of York where he is researching a social history of the English print trade c.1550-1650. He teaches at the university, the Centre for Lifelong Learning and for Pharos Tutors. Joe is also a Trustee of the British Association for Local History.

Our online tutorials provide guidance on a broad range of topics. They are open to everyone.

In order to be able to join the tutorial you will need access to ZOOM. On the day of the Tutorial you will be sent a unique ID and password.

Please allow for two hours for the session, including joining and discussions. The talk will last approximately an hour.
