Tutorial - The British Army Detective with Paul Nixon

Following on from his very popular tutorial 'The British Army 1850-1920; an Essential Guide’, we are delighted to welcome back military historian Paul Nixon, who will show you how to become a ‘British Army detective’.

Many of us, when trying to research our Victorian and early twentieth century British Army ancestors, will have felt frustrated at the paucity of information available to us. Paul’s simple message is “Don’t despair! All is not lost!”

Working through case histories and calling upon more that forty years of research experience, Paul will demonstrate how a myriad of often untapped sources can provide vital clues about a soldier’s life and career. In many instances, it’s just about knowing where to find the information and then how to interpret it.

So grab your Sherlock Holmes deerstalker and pipe, and listen while Paul shares his expertise on how to build out a fuller profile of your army ancestors. This tutorial will also include hints on what photographs of soldiers can reveal about their military service.
