What Can My DNA Do For Me? with Dr Sophie Kay
DNA: we’re all full of it, and it holds a wealth of information about our family history.
Introducing genetics into our genealogy research can sometimes be overwhelming, but doesn’t have to be. Asking WHY we want to use DNA in our research, and WHAT we want to achieve, can be instrumental in our success. Suitable for genetics newcomers and intermediate DNA researchers alike, this session provides a bigger-picture overview of how DNA can help your family history flourish and focuses on three key benefits it can bring to your research: validation, extension and connection. Embrace the double helix now and you’ll never look back!
An accompanying worksheet will be provided for this session, offering attendees a series of optional questions and tasks relating to their own family tree and designed to get you thinking about the practical benefits which genetic genealogy can bring to your ancestral journey.
Our online tutorials provide guidance on a broad range of topics. They are open to everyone.
In order to be able to join the tutorial you will need access to ZOOM. On the day of the Tutorial you will be sent a unique ID and password.
Please allow for two hours for the session including joining and discussions. The talk will last approximately an hour.
The numbers are limited. If the bookings are full, please contact the registrar@ihgs.ac.uk as new dates will be added.
